Have you ever wondered if the book you just bought is any good for scripture study? For a long time a book called the Purpose Driven Life, received much acclaim, yet unbeknownst to the millions of readers the author used an interpretation of scriptures that were paraphrases. On the surface, this does not seem to be much of a problem until you find out that these books are not even translations of the bible, but paraphrase only. You are not getting Heavenly Father’s words and direction, just someone’s take on it. The scriptures were butchered into summaries of an English version of the once sacred text.

Silly us, we never read footnotes and find how and where different authors get their information. I found one book at the main BEE bookstore that quoted as authoritative a publication of a well-known anti-Mormon publication group. It is always good to check your sources. In lieu of these issues, I have created this side-note where you can request a critic synopsis of any commentary or book you are planning to buy or have obtained

Unfortunately, even though my library is quite extensive and I update it regularly I do not have all texts. In keeping with this, it might take some time to respond to your requests. What you will need to do is email me the TITLE, Author, ISBN #, and edition. In some cases, I might need the publisher as well. I will not do a book report for you, so please do not ask. Nevertheless, I will send you a personal email as well as post the critic on this blog. Happy hunting
